The invention discloses a method for preparation of building gypsum powder from phosphogypsum. The method comprises the steps of: (1) firstly grinding phosphogypsum raw material; and (2) calcining the ground phosphogypsum raw material to obtain building gypsum powder. By adopting the improved technology of the invention, the calcined phosphogypsum has no need for grinding, the final grain size is also close to that of the traditional process, but no fresh surface appears. Therefore, the gypsum hydration is uniform, the compactness is high and the strength is high.
