The invention provides a water permeable brick and a preparation method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of sponge cities. The water permeable brick comprises a water permeable skeleton anda water-retaining lining, wherein the water permeable skeleton is formed by pressing water permeable aggregate, the water-retaining lining is wrapped by the water permeable skeleton, the water-retaining lining is made of modified water-absorbing cotton, and the modified water-absorbing cotton is water-absorbing sponge fully infiltrated with cement mortar. The water-retaining lining and the waterpermeable framework are connected into a whole, the hollow sign does not exist, and the strength of the water permeable brick is guaranteed. The water-absorbing sponge maintains most of the water-absorbing and water-permeable performances, so that the water-permeable brick has a strong water-retaining function. According to the water-retaining lining made of the modified water-absorbing cotton, inthe rainwater absorption and release process, the macrostructure of the water-retaining lining cannot be changed or is difficult to change, so that the service lifetime of the water permeable brick is effectively prolonged, and the duration time of the water-retaining function of the water permeable brick is prolonged. Meanwhile, due to the characteristics of the modified water-absorbing cotton,the water permeable brick is endowed with good moisture retention, noise reduction and sound absorption properties and warm-keeping and cold-resisting properties.
