The invention relates to the technical field of water permeable bricks, in particular to a water permeable brick and a preparation method thereof. The water permeable brick comprises a base layer, a waterproof brick body frame is arranged on the base layer, the waterproof brick body frame is a five-face dense waterproof rectangular frame with an opening in the upper end, and an inwards-inclined inclined face is arranged at the upper end of the waterproof brick body frame; an inner cavity of the waterproof brick body frame forms a filling cavity, and a filling layer formed by pouring a water permeable filling material is arranged in the filling cavity; two horizontally-arranged communicating pipes are arranged between the waterproof brick body frame and the base layer, the communicating pipes are vertically arranged and communicate with each other, the upper ends of the communicating pipes penetrate through the bottom of the waterproof brick body frame and extend into the filling layer,and a plurality of overflow holes are formed in the tops of the communicating pipes at intervals along the axis. Rainwater and surface runoff are collected to avoid waterlogging, meanwhile, in hot days after rain, the stored water is evaporated, the pavement temperature is reduced, and therefore pavement sensible heat emission is reduced, and the urban heat island effect is reduced.
