The invention discloses high-strength aerated concrete and a preparation method thereof. The high-strength aerated concrete is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 40 to 60 parts of modified red sandstone, 15 to 23 parts of cement, 13 to 19 parts of lime, 1 to 7 parts of gypsum, 0.1 to 0.5 part of aluminum powder, 0.5 to 2 parts of sodium hydroxide, 0.3 to 0.9 part of a polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent and 70 to 80 parts of water, wherein the modified red sandstone is prepared by reacting natural red sandstone, polyvinyl alcohol, an enhancer prepared by mixingfluosilicate and sodium methyl silicate, and lactic acid. The polyvinyl alcohol, the enhancer and the lactic acid are used for modifying the natural red sandstone, so that the problems that the red sandstone is easy to soften after absorbing water and the concrete strength is reduced can be effectively solved. The aerated concrete prepared by the preparation method has the characteristics of highcompressive strength and low dry density.
