The invention discloses an alkali-activated tuff cementing material and a preparation method thereof. The alkali-activated tuff cementing material comprises the following raw materials: tuff stone powder, a sodium hydroxide solution and a sodium silicate solution, wherein the concrete dosage of the tuff stone powder, the sodium hydroxide solution and the sodium silicate solution is that the mass ratio of the tuff stone powder to the sodium hydroxide solution to the sodium silicate solution is 25: 10: 1. The tuff stone powder is excited by the alkaline solution, so that the 7-day compressive strength of the hardened tuff stone powder serving as a cementing material reaches 36MPa which is 85 percent of the 7-day compressive strength of ordinary Portland cement; the density is 1720kg/m < 3 >and is 88 percent of the density of a common Portland cement sample. Calcination and steam curing are not needed in the preparation process, and the problems that tuff stone powder generated in the machine-made sand making process and other industrial production processes cannot be treated and pollutes the environment are effectively solved.
