The invention provides a self-climbing hanging basket for stay cable operation, which comprises a climbing assembly and a protection assembly, the climbing assembly comprises a climbing elevator, a connecting rod, a stay cable, a mounting plate, a connecting column, a hanging basket, a semicircular plate, a connecting plate, a threaded rod, an icebreaking shovel, a guide rod and a handle; and two climbing elevators are symmetrically mounted on the outer side wall of the stay cable. The climbing hoister moves along the outer side wall of the stay cable to drive the mounting plate, the connecting column and the hanging basket to synchronously move, so that the hanging basket can automatically climb, the ice breaking shovel can be driven to be close to and attached to the surface of the stay cable by rotating the threaded rod clockwise, the ice breaking shovel can adapt to the stay cables of different thicknesses, and the ice breaking efficiency is improved.
