The invention discloses an asphalt pavement maintenance method, which comprises the following steps of: 1, measuring the length of a longitudinal crack of an asphalt pavement, and erecting a warning bar on the asphalt pavement to be maintained; 2, after the crack surface of the road surface is locally milled, a pit slot base layer is formed in the crack; thirdly, the interior of the pit slot base layer is pushed and cleaned through an asphalt pavement maintenance device, and the cleaning completeness of the peripheral side of the inner wall of the pit slot is improved; according to the device disclosed by the invention, the peripheral sweeping strip is regulated to be in an adaptive fit state with the wall of the milled pit slot, so that the rotary driving part sweeps off impurities attached to the corners of the pit slot and the peripheral side of the inner wall after crack milling by driving the peripheral sweeping strip arranged on the outer side of the transmission roller, and residual impurities in the uneven peripheral side position of the inner wall of the pit slot are brought out; cleaning can be completed until the operation machine shell is pushed to move the whole pit slot in the pit slot formed after the crack is milled, and the device is effectively suitable for the pit slot which is formed by the crack and is long in length and low in pit slot depth.
