The invention relates to the technical field of concrete admixtures, and provides a coarse sand concrete thickening agent and a preparation method thereof.The coarse sand concrete thickening agent is prepared from, by weight, 40-60 parts of a water-retaining agent, 2-5 parts of an air entraining agent, 20-30 parts of a dispersing agent and 10-38 parts of water; the water-retaining agent is obtained by taking 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, acrylamide and acrylic acid as monomers and carrying out polymerization reaction. Through the technical scheme, the problems of high bleeding rate, low fluidity and low compressive strength of concrete in the prior art are solved.
