The invention provides a concrete water-retaining agent and a preparation method thereof. The concrete water-retaining agent is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 40 to 60 parts of linear polyacrylamide, 35 to 45 parts of polyoxyethylene alkyl phenyl ether phosphate triethanolamine salt, 15 to 50 parts of dipotassium phosphate, 12 to 25 parts of alkylphenol, 10 to 22 parts of isooctyl thioglycolate, 8 to 12 parts of activating agent and 5 to 10 parts of viscosity modifier. The concrete water-retaining agent disclosed by the invention has good water-retaining property, can obviously improve the viscosity of concrete and reduce the segregation of the concrete, so that fresh concrete has good workability, the bleeding rate of the concrete is reduced, and the concrete water-retaining agent can be widely applied to concrete of various pumping constructions such as buildings, roads, bridges, hydraulic engineering, underground engineering and the like.
