The invention provides a concrete water-retaining agent and a preparation method thereof. The concrete water-retaining agent is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 60 to 80 parts of polyacrylamide, 20 to 28 parts of 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid high-molecular polymer, 14 to 22 parts of cellulose ether, 18 to 26 parts of castor oil polyoxyethylene ether, 14 to 20 parts of silane coupling agent, 20 to 32 parts of montmorillonite, 25 to 30 parts of diatomite, 12 to 18 parts of sodium hydroxide solution and 18 to 26 parts of water-soluble latex powder. According to the invention, polyacrylamide is compounded with montmorillonite and diatomite to form a uniform and stable protective film with a net structure, and the protective film has a synergistic effect with raw materials such as 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid high-molecular polymer and the like to form a stable suspension system, so that an effective water retention effect on concrete is achieved; the loss of free water in the concrete is reduced, the cracking degree of the concrete is effectively reduced, and the montmorillonite and the diatomite can permeate into the concrete to fill gaps of the concrete, so that the compactness of the concrete is improved, the strength of the concrete is effectively improved, and the cracking of the concrete is reduced.
