The invention belongs to the technical field of inorganic boards, and particularly discloses a light magnesium oxide board and a manufacturing method thereof. According to the light magnesium oxide board, the light magnesium silicate-based filler generated through a hydrothermal reaction under specific conditions is used as a light component, and the performance advantages of large specific surface area, light apparent density and high compressive strength of the light magnesium oxide board can be fully utilized; the inorganic filler is different from glass fibers and foaming slurry, is nontoxic and harmless to a human body, has good compatibility with an inorganic system of the magnesium oxide board, and can effectively reduce the density of the board without influencing the internal bonding strength of the board when being added into the magnesium oxide board. The lightweight magnesium silicate-based filler has good compatibility with a magnesium oxide board, and can be uniformly dispersed in the magnesium oxide board to play a role in density reduction. Besides, along with the prolonging of the curing period of the obtained light magnesium oxide board, the light magnesium silicate-based filler can be further hydrated, the compressive strength is gradually improved, and the mechanical property of the light magnesium oxide board is also remarkably enhanced.
