The thermal insulation mortar is prepared from the following components in parts by mass: 40 to 50 parts of cement, 30 to 45 parts of fly ash, 8 to 15 parts of redispersible latex powder, 30 to 45 parts of glass beads, 10 to 25 parts of silica fume, 6 to 10 parts of palygorskite fiber, 8 to 15 parts of polyacrylamide grafted basalt fiber, 2 to 5 parts of cellulose ether, 5 to 8 parts of water reducing agent and 2 to 5 parts of retarder. The palygorskite fibers are stearic acid modified palygorskite fibers; the preparation method comprises the following steps: stirring and mixing the cement, the fly ash, the redispersible latex powder, the palygorskite fiber, the polyacrylamide grafted basalt fiber, the cellulose ether, the water reducing agent and the retarder for 3-5 minutes according to the proportion, then adding the glass beads and the silica fume, and continuously stirring for 1-2 minutes to obtain the thermal insulation mortar. The thermal insulation mortar has the advantages of high strength and good crack resistance.
