The invention relates to the technical field of carbon composite materials, in particular to a preparation method and application of a chopped carbon fiber insulation felt. The preparation method comprises the following steps: adding a cross-linking agent and a monomer into water, uniformly stirring, and adding an initiator to obtain a mixed solution 1; adding polyacrylamide into water, uniformly stirring to obtain a polyacrylamide solution, and uniformly stirring the polyacrylamide solution with the mixed solution 1 in the step S1 to obtain a mixed solution 2; adding water-soluble sugar into water, and uniformly stirring to obtain a water-soluble sugar solution; mixing chopped fibers, the water-soluble sugar solution and the mixed solution 2 to obtain a paste material; placing in a mold, drying, and then cooling and demolding to obtain a prefabricated blank body; and sequentially carrying out pre-carbonization and carbonization on the prefabricated blank body to obtain the low-density carbon-bonded carbon fiber composite material. The method is simple and easy to implement, and the prepared material has the excellent properties of low density, high strength, high purity, good heat insulation performance, porosity and the like.
