The invention relates to a method for carrying out multi-point transverse movement erection on a main cable strand of a suspension bridge by using a catwalk portal. The method comprises the following steps: erecting a catwalk below a main cable; a traction system is erected above the main cable; a plurality of cable strand rollers are arranged in the catwalk, and the traction system pulls the cable strands to move along the cable strand rollers; a plurality of lifting and transverse moving devices are erected on the catwalk at intervals in the bridge direction; each lifting transverse moving device serves as a lifting point position of the cable strand, and the lifting transverse moving devices of the lifting point positions transversely move to the position above the main cable after lifting the cable strand and then release the cable strand to enable the cable strand to fall into the main cable; and the steps are repeated until all the cable strands are erected. According to the method, the multiple lifting and transverse moving devices are arranged to serve as the multiple lifting point positions of the cable strand, the multiple lifting point positions lift and transversely move the cable strand in the length direction of the cable strand at intervals, the time lag effect generated when the midspan cable strand is erected is eliminated, and it is ensured that the cable strand is not loosened or twisted.
