The method comprises the steps that a robot is controlled to search for two parallel wall bodies in a swimming pool to be cleaned; controlling the robot to clean a first target area in the swimming pool; wherein the first target area is an area between the two parallel wall bodies; controlling the robot to detect a second target area in the swimming pool; wherein the second target area is an area except the first target area; and controlling the robot to clean the detected second target area. By means of the swimming pool cleaning device, more comprehensive cleaning can be conducted in swimming pools of various irregular shapes, the situation of missing sweeping is avoided, and the swimming pool cleaning device has wider applicability.
