The control method comprises the steps that the automatic pool cleaning device is controlled to move from water to the water surface along the side wall, and a water pump works at first preset power; whether the front portion of the automatic pool cleaning device is higher than the water surface or not is judged, if it is judged that the front portion of the automatic pool cleaning device is higher than the water surface, the power of the water pump is adjusted to be second preset power, and the second preset power is smaller than the first preset power; whether the front portion of the automatic pool cleaning device is lower than the water surface or not is judged, and if it is judged that the front portion of the automatic pool cleaning device is lower than the water surface, the power of the water pump is increased to the first preset power from the second preset power.
