To provide a short reach type hydraulic shovel which suppresses intrusion of a flying object to a cylinder storage chamber between right and left guards and protects a bucket cylinder.SOLUTION: A short reach type hydraulic shovel includes: right and left guards 31 which are erected from a back side wall surface 22a of an arm and form a cylinder storage chamber 32 for storing a bucket cylinder 26; a bracket 41 fixed to a tube 26a of the bucket cylinder 26; a top cover 42a which is fixed to the bracket 41 and covers the cylinder storage chamber 32; a side cover 42b which falls from right and left ends of the top cover 42a so as to partially overlap with the guard 31; a spacer 43 for forming a rod cover storage space 48 between the top cover 42a and the bracket 41; a guide 44 fixed to the back side of the tube 26a; and a rod cover 45 one end of which is fixed to a tip side part of a rod of the bucket cylinder 26 and the other end of which is slidably supported by the guide 44, and enters to/comes out of the rod cover storage space 48.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
