The authorized project provides for contained disposal of polluted maintenance dredge spoil from Ontonagon Harbor, Ontonagon County, Ontonagon, Michigan, which has previously been deposited in the open waters of Lake Superior. Some 20 acres of land surface would be used for diked disposal of polluted dredge spoil. Any adverse effects of these dredgings upon the lake would eventually cease. Temporary adverse effects are expected during the short-term of active project life. Local turbidity of harbor water would be unavoidable during dike construction, as would cutting of an access channel and spoil deposition.
