New type of charcoal paint of excellent air permeability

Artech Kohboh, Yokohama, has developed a charcoal paint featuring excellent air permeability, adhesivity and ease of application for housing units. Charcoal has recently been reassessed because of its characteristics such as moisture adjustment (prevention of dewing), toxic gas adsorption and deodorization (room air purification), and protection against harmful insects such as ticks and termites as well as molds. The new Health-Coat paint is prepared into a fluid product by mixing a liquid state macromolecular resin as the binder into pulverized charcoal. It can be painted, for example, on housing unit floors, walls and ceilings. When the humidity is high, the paint adsorbs moisture and subsequently releases it when it dries, or adjusts the environment to an optimum humidity while preventing dewing. Various allergy sources are suppressed. The offensive odors of toilets, tobacco smoking and bodily odors are also adsorbed and eliminated. The polycrystalline structure of charcoal is linked to supporting the electric storage effect in the same manner as a carbon dry cell, so contributes to establishing a healthy environment consisting of a large number of negative ions. It stabilizes magnetic fields and shields harmful magnetic waves.
