The invention discloses a water depth self-adaptive emergency braking system and method for a ship reception chamber of a ship lift. The water depth self-adaptive emergency braking system comprises an electric pump set for providing hydraulic power, and an oil outlet of the electric pump set is connected with a one-way oil filtering valve set through a first one-way valve; an outlet of the one-way oil filter valve group is connected with a first electromagnetic directional valve and a second electromagnetic directional valve in parallel through a second one-way valve, the second electromagnetic directional valve is connected with a speed regulating valve in series, and an outlet of the speed regulating valve is connected with a third electromagnetic directional valve and a proportional overflow valve in parallel; the other ends of the first electromagnetic directional valve and the third electromagnetic directional valve are connected with a working brake; a fourth electromagnetic directional valve is mounted between the working brake and the oil tank; and the system also comprises a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) for controlling the system. According to the braking system, on the basis that the current of the proportional overflow valve is adjusted to control the braking torque, the unbalanced load generated by mistakenly loading the water depth of the ship reception chamber is considered, the braking torque can be accurately output, and therefore it is guaranteed that the ship reception chamber is emergently braked at the proper acceleration, and mechanical impact or the braking stroke is reduced.
