The invention discloses a latch assembly for a vehicle. When retained within an associated latch mechanism, a latch of the latch assembly is configured to collapse toward an outer surface of an associated hood, tailgate, or another door, such that the outer surface of the hood, tailgate, or another door is allowed to deflect inward, and the lock catch does not obviously contact the outer surface and does not become a contact point for impacting an object so as not to cause inward deflection of the outer surface. The latch assembly utilizes a reinforcement plate having a pair of deflecting tabs or the like that contact the pair of deflecting tabs and are allowed to translate through an associated attachment plate of the latch assembly when a hood impact occurs.
