BASE ISOLATION METHOD FOR EXISTING BUILDING
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building base isolation method for base-isolating an existing building and making it highly earthquake-resistant, with lower costs and simpler construction processes than conventional methods.SOLUTION: A base isolation method for an existing building comprises the following steps for: constructing an earth retaining wall 2 in a ground G around a building 1 that has a basement floor, so as to surround the building 1; forming a space 3 by excavating the ground G between the earth retaining wall 2 and the building 1; and filling the space 3 with water 6 for applying buoyant force F to the building 1, thus realizing sliding base isolation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
