To provide an automatic locking device capable of preventing a dead bolt from protruding to the maximum protrusion amount which results in a locked state while in a door open state.SOLUTION: In an automatic locking device which includes a dead bolt 20 having a locked state in which the dead bolt protrudes to the maximum protruding amount Pb and a latched state in which the dead bolt protrudes to an intermediate protruding amount and which is equipped with a trigger mechanism 30 that operates upon door closure a latch locking member 35 to cause a trigger operating member 31 inside a front plate 12 to activate thereby releasing the latched state, a configuration is employed in which upon door closure, a first permanent magnet M1 provided integrally with the trigger operating member 31 receives a magnetic force generated between the first permanent magnet and a second permanent magnet M2 provided inside a strike plate 11 to activate the trigger operating member 31.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
