Liquid granite. Multicolour imitation-stone paints with improved stability and performance
(1) The use of synthetic hectonte in multicolour paints opens up new fields of use, for example imitation granite finishes that closely match real stone. (2) Improved formulation by combination of synthetic layered silicate with organo-modified natural layered silicates optimises stability and performance. Clay mineral colloids allow the formulation of environment-friendly water-based low-VOC multicolour coating. (3) High resolution microscopy on cryogels has provided new findings on the stabilising mechanisms in multicolour paints and indicates for the first time unusual tubular gel structures not previously described, but, predicted by theory.
