The invention relates to a rectangular pipe jacking construction method for a riverway. The rectangular pipe jacking construction method comprises the steps that a target riverbed is sampled and analyzed, and modeling is conducted in finite element software to reinforce the target riverbed; a pipe jacking starting well and a receiving well are dug, and a foundation pit guide rail, a pipe jacking machine and a propelling device for propelling the pipe jacking machine are arranged in the pipe jacking starting well; the pipe jacking machine is started to jack a hole of a target pipeline; after the pipe jacking machine enters the target pipeline under propelling of the propelling device, prefabricated pipe joints are connected with the pipe jacking machine, so that the pipe joints enter the target pipeline along with the pipe jacking machine under propelling of the propelling device until the pipe jacking machine enters the receiving well to finish laying of the pipe joints in the pipeline; grouting holes are reserved in the pipe joints, and all the grouting holes are connected through connecting pipes. and after the pipe joints are laid, the grouting holes in the pipe joints are opened, cement-water glass binary slurry is pressed into the connecting pipes so as to replace thixotropic slurry outside the pipeline. The construction difficulty can be lowered, and the construction safety can be improved.
